How do I install the VT310 in a vehicle?
- Choose mounting location — recommended under the front windshield for the best GNSS reception and easy OBD-II access.
- Insert the SIM — open the waterproof baffle on the underside, insert the 2FF SIM in the indicated direction, close the baffle.
- Activate the battery — the VT310 ships in transport mode. Connect external power or the OBD interface to wake the battery before first use.
- Pick the right 26-pin cable for the integration:
| Cable | Order code | Use case |
| — | — | — |
| 26-pin all-in-one test cable | SCAB000229 | Lab / office bench testing — cable’s open end accepts a 9–48 V adapter. |
| OBD-II 7-pin all-in-one cable | SCAB000231 | Heavy trucks with an OBD-II port. Adds an ignition-signal terminal. |
| OBD-II 26-pin all-in-one cable | SCAB000232 | Best when the deployment also needs DI / DO / AI / 1-Wire — adds an open-end branch with all the I/O lines. |
- Wire the IGT pin to the vehicle’s ignition switch. For bench testing, tie IGT and V+ to the same positive rail.
- DI / DO / AI / 1-Wire detail:
- DI: default 10 kΩ pull-down to GND; configurable to 20 kΩ pull-up to VCC
- DO: open-drain, max 300 mA per channel — typically driven through a relay
- AI: 0.5–48 V range, ±0.015 V accuracy, max 2 µA operating current
- 1-Wire: connect the sensor’s DQ pin to VT310 PIN 8 and GND; supports up to 4 sensors (e.g., DS18B20)
After power-up, verify status via the two LEDs on the housing — GNSS LED (slow flash = searching, solid = location fix) and Cellular LED (slow flash = dialing, 0.5 Hz flash = connected).
How does the VT310 connect to cellular and publish to the cloud?
The VT310’s cellular module dials up automatically on its baked-in regional bands as soon as a SIM is installed and the device is powered. Configuration is done through the RS232 serial port or Bluetooth (no web GUI). Publish telemetry over TCP, UDP, HTTP, or MQTT to any of the supported cloud targets:
- AWS IoT, Azure IoT, Aliyun IoT (hyperscaler MQTT)
- Wialon, Traccar, GPSWox, ThingsBoard, WhiteLabel Tracking (fleet SaaS)
- Customer private cloud via FlexAPI or SMS
Event alarms (collision, motion, overspeed, I/O change, ignition signal) can be reported via SMS or as FlexAPI messages over TCP/UDP/MQTT.
When connectivity drops, the VT310 caches 30,000+ location records locally and uploads them automatically when the link is restored — so no data is lost during dead-zone driving or temporary outages.
How does the VT310 compare to the VT320?
| VT310 | VT320 | |
| — | — | — |
| Form factor | 141 × 82 × 35 mm, 152 g, IP66 | Compact tracker form factor |
| Mobilfunk | Cat-M / Cat 1 / Cat 4 — 3 regional SKUs (FS31 / FS52 / FQ58) | Cat-M / NB-IoT (FQ02 global) |
| Vehicle interfaces | 26-pin: 2× CAN, J1708/RS485, RS232, 4× DI, 3× DO, AI, 1-Wire; OBD-II / J1939 / J1708 support | Basic asset/vehicle tracking interfaces |
| Backup battery | 1200 mAh Li-ion — keeps the device online with vehicle off | Smaller / not the primary use case |
| Offline cache | 30,000+ location records | Configurable buffering |
| Configuration | RS232 or Bluetooth | VTConfig Windows tool over USB / serial |
| Operating temp | −40 to +85 °C (main power) | Narrower range |
Pick the VT310 when the deployment needs full vehicle-bus integration (CAN, OBD-II, J1939, J1708) and rich I/O (DI/DO/AI/1-Wire), keep-alive over a Li-ion backup battery, IP66 ruggedization, or 30K-record offline caching for long dead-zone routes. Pick the VT320 for simpler asset/vehicle tracking on Cat-M / NB-IoT where the deeper bus integration isn’t needed.
