Construction sites face a unique set of networking challenges. Projects commonly run for months, so equipment and vehicles remain parked on site for long stretches and need continuous monitoring. The site environment is also extremely harsh — rain, hail, and snow — so outdoor-deployed equipment must be weatherproof, or a damaged unit takes the network down. And because construction is cyclical, the equipment must be easy to deploy and relocate. A purpose-built outdoor router with native, standardized protection is needed to provide reliable connectivity for temporary site-office management and on-site CCTV.

Solution
With its native IP65 high-strength plastic enclosure, the ODU302 withstands rain, sand, and other harsh outdoor conditions without an extra protection box — so the same standardized setup can be rolled out and reused quickly across construction sites.
Two ODU302 units are typically deployed on site. One is installed on the surveillance pole together with the camera, connected to it over Ethernet, and backhauls live video to the monitoring center over the 4G cellular network. The second unit is mounted on the roof of the temporary modular site office, where its dual Ethernet ports and built-in Wi-Fi provide network access for on-site office management.
With this topology, surveillance footage is delivered to the temporary office over cellular, where it can be previewed live and recorded locally. The office network supports day-to-day management work and can forward surveillance streams onward. Whatever the project duration or the severity of the weather, the ODU302 keeps a stable, reliable link.
The ODU302 also works with the Device Manager platform. When managing multiple remote sites, engineers upgrade firmware and troubleshoot remotely instead of traveling to site — saving travel and cutting the overall cost of maintaining multi-site projects.
