Two cellular SKUs (both global): VR624-GLNR (5G NR NSA + SA) and VR624-GLC6 (4G LTE Cat 6).
Target applications per the datasheet: public transport (buses, coaches), heavy equipment (trucks, excavators, cranes), autonomous and patrol vehicles, law-enforcement and fire trucks, ambulances, and sanitation vehicles.
How do I install the VR624 in a vehicle?
- Mount the VR624 to the vehicle wall using its mounting brackets. Connect the grounding cable to the device’s grounding post — loosen the nut, insert the ring terminal, retighten.
- Connect antennas to the SMA / RP-SMA connectors: 4× SMA for 5G (or 2× SMA for the 4G SKU), 2× RP-SMA for Wi-Fi 2.4 + 5 GHz, 1× SMA for GNSS.
- Wire the 8-pin power cable (
SCAB000637) into the vehicle harness:
- V+ to switched or constant battery (DC 9–48 V)
- V− and GND to chassis ground
- IGT to the ignition-controlled circuit (the VR624 starts and shuts down based on this signal)
- RS232 and DI pins to your serial / digital-input devices as needed
- Insert the SIM card(s) in the drawer slot (dual nano-SIM, 1.8 V / 3 V).
- Connect Ethernet from any of the 4× M12 X-code ports to a computer using an M12-to-RJ45 cable (
AETH050002). Set the PC adapter to DHCP or a static IP in192.168.2.2–254. - Open a browser to
http://192.168.2.1and log in with the credentials printed on the device nameplate. Accept the security warning if shown (Advanced → Proceed).
Verify boot via the System LED: solid red during start-up, then blink green when the OS is running normally.
How do I connect the VR624 to cellular and set the APN?
With the device powered off, insert the SIM card(s). Apply power via the IGT-asserted ignition line — the VR624 auto-detects the carrier and applies the matching APN in most cases, so no manual setup is needed. If the cellular link does not come up, log in, go to Internet > Cellular, edit the SIM profile to enter the APN per your carrier’s requirements, and save. For dual-SIM failover, configure both profiles and set the link priority. Verify by checking the Cellular LED (blink green = connecting, solid green = connected) and the Signal LED (red / yellow / green = poor / medium / good).
How do I configure vehicle power management on the VR624?
Vehicle deployments share power with the battery, so the VR624 includes ignition-aware shutdown and low-voltage protection. Configure at Services > Power Management:
| Setting | Behavior |
| — | — |
| Sleep Voltage | Input voltage threshold (in 100 mV units) at which the router enters low-power sleep — e.g., 90 = 9.0 V. Protects the battery from deep discharge when the vehicle is parked. |
| Power-on Voltage | Threshold (in 100 mV units) at which the router wakes from sleep — e.g., 105 = 10.5 V. Should be set above Sleep Voltage to avoid oscillation. |
| Low-Voltage Shutdown Delay | Seconds to wait after a low-voltage condition is detected before shutting down. Filters out transient dips during cranking. |
| Ignition Shutdown Delay | Seconds the router stays online after the ignition signal is removed. Allows graceful teardown of cellular sessions and final data upload. |
| ITxPT | Enable for ITxPT-compliant in-vehicle power and data management on public-transport deployments. |
The ignition signal is read on the dedicated IGT pin of the 8-pin power cable ( SCAB000637 ) — make sure this pin is wired to the vehicle’s ignition-switched circuit, not to constant battery power, or the router will never enter sleep.
