Four SKUs (selected by cellular region and LoRa frequency plan):
| SKU | Cellular | LoRa frequency plan | Region |
| — | — | — | — |
EC312-H-FQ53-L868 | EMEA Cat 1 | EU868 | EMEA |
EC312-H-FQ33-L915 | NA Cat 1 | US915 / AS923 | North America |
EC312-H-FQ53-L915 | EMEA Cat 1 | US915 / AS923 | EMEA exporting to NA / APAC bands |
EC312-H-LQA3-L470 | China Cat 1 | CN470 | China |
> Note: North-American models use 2× SMA for the LTE antenna (main + diversity); other regions use 1× SMA.
Target applications per the datasheet: smart city (building / lighting management), smart manufacturing (monitoring / predictive maintenance), smart energy (wind-turbine remote start), smart agriculture (environmental monitoring, irrigation).
How do I install and access the EC312-LoRaWAN Gateway?
- Mount to a 35 mm DIN rail or panel using the supplied bracket.
- Connect antennas at the SMA connectors: 1× LoRaWAN, 1× LTE (or 2× for NA models), 1× Wi-Fi, 1× GPS/GNSS. The LoRaWAN antenna placement determines coverage — keep it elevated and clear of metal obstructions.
- Insert SIM(s) into the dual nano-SIM slots if cellular is needed.
- Connect power to the DC 9–48 V terminal. The supercapacitor activates on first charge; if external power is then lost, the gateway shuts down safely within ~20 seconds and triggers a power-failure alarm.
- Connect a PC via Ethernet — ETH1 defaults to
192.168.3.100, ETH2 defaults to192.168.4.100. Set your PC adapter to a static IP in the matching subnet (e.g.,192.168.4.x). - Open a browser to
https://192.168.4.100:9100(HTTPS only on port 9100; HTTP auto-redirects). Log in with usernameadmand the password printed on the device nameplate.
For headless / shell access, SSH into the same IP as user edge (password on the nameplate). The root account is disabled for SSH; use sudo -s to escalate. IEOS owns network management — do not run native Linux network commands while IEOS is running, or stop it first with systemctl stop ieos_daemon .
Verify status via the front-panel LEDs: PWR (red, always on when powered), STATUS (yellow, flashing in normal operation), NET (green steady = network connected, flashing = dialing).
How do I configure LoRaWAN — Packet Forward or built-in ChirpStack?
In the IEOS web GUI, the LoRaWAN page offers three modes: Off, Packet Forward, or Built-in Network Server.
Packet Forward (to an external NS):
- UDP — enter up to 5 NS server addresses + port; configurable keepalive interval (default 10 s) and max keepalive failures; tick which CRC outcomes to forward (CRC OK on by default; CRC invalid / missing off by default).
- MQTT — enter broker IP + port + Client ID + optional username/password and TLS (CA or self-signed); choose JSON or binary (protobuf) data format and QoS; the topic prefix is prepended to defaults like
gateway/{{gateway_dev_eui}}/event/upand.../stats.
Built-in Network Server (ChirpStack):
- The Region is fixed by the model (display-only). Match the Frequency Plan to the end-node and the NS. Configure ADR, Min/Max TX Data Rate, Rx1 Delay (1–15 s), RX1 Data Rate Offset, and RX2 Frequency / Data Rate.
- The local MQTT integration broker runs at
127.0.0.1:9121(credentialscarrier/mqtt@carrier). MQTT topics follow the standard ChirpStack pattern:application/{{app_id}}/device/{{dev_eui}}/up,.../down,.../join,.../txack,.../status.
ChirpStack initial setup workflow:
- From the IEOS LoRaWAN page → Built-in LNS → Go to Network Server Manage Page.
- Log in with default credentials
admin/adminand change them immediately. - Add Gateway — Gateway EUI is shown on the IEOS Overview status page.
- Add Device Profile — set MAC version and regional parameters per end-node spec.
- Add Application — generates an Application ID used in MQTT topics.
- Add Device — enter Device EUI, Join EUI, and Application Key from the end-node manufacturer.
- Test — trigger end-node data and verify in the ChirpStack Events tab; use the Queue tab to test Class C downlinks.
How does the EC312-LoRaWAN Gateway differ from the EC312 Edge Computer?
| EC312-LoRaWAN Gateway | EC312 Edge Computer | |
| — | — | — |
| Primary role | LoRaWAN concentrator — aggregates LoRa end-node traffic | General-purpose Linux edge gateway with cellular + industrial I/O |
| LoRa radio | Semtech SX1302, 8-channel, 2000 nodes, 15 km LOS | — |
| LNS | Built-in ChirpStack or Packet Forward to external NS | — |
| Cellular | LTE Cat 1 (dual nano-SIM, failover) | LTE Cat 1 / Cat 4 / NA / EMEA / APAC variants (5 SKUs) |
| Industrial I/O | 1× RS-232/485 + 1× RS-485 (isolated) | 1× RS-232/485 + 1× RS-485 + optional extension modules (DI/DO, CAN-FD, etc.) |
| Wireless | Wi-Fi 5 (STA only) + BLE 4.2 + GPS — all included | Wi-Fi / Bluetooth / GPS optional via the -H SKU |
| OS | Debian 11 + IEOS | Debian 11 + IEOS |
| Cloud | DeviceLive | DeviceLive |
| Power resilience | DC 9–48 V, supercap 20 s safe shutdown | DC 9–48 V, supercap 20 s safe shutdown |
| Form factor | 145 × 106 × 36 mm, 339 g, IP30 | 145 × 106 × 36 mm, 339 g, IP30 (same chassis family) |
Pick the EC312-LoRaWAN Gateway when the deployment needs LoRaWAN end-node aggregation — sensors over LoRa, ChirpStack-managed networks, or Packet-Forward to The Things Stack — with cellular/Wi-Fi/Ethernet backhaul. Pick the EC312 Edge Computer when the deployment needs general-purpose Linux edge compute with cellular and richer industrial I/O via expansion modules, without a LoRa radio.
