5G RedCap connectivity for solar-powered municipal video surveillance

Uygulamalar ve Örnek Olaylar

Önemli Noktalar

Outdoor surveillance sites in alleys, green spaces, and hillside areas often lack both fiber and utility power. Conventional 4G may struggle with video upload traffic, while standard 5G devices can require more power and cost more to deploy.
The IR602 uses 5G RedCap to support the backhaul of 1080p video streams within a solar plus battery power setup. Dual SIM and a hardware watchdog improve connection resilience. DeviceLive allows teams to configure, monitor, and update routers centrally, reducing routine site visits.

Arka plan

Cities are extending video surveillance to locations beyond existing power and fiber infrastructure. Installing new fiber is costly and time-consuming. Conventional 4G connections may not provide enough upload capacity for video traffic, while standard 5G equipment can place a heavier load on solar power systems.

These widely distributed sites are also difficult to maintain. Sending technicians to each location increases operating costs, and transmitting surveillance footage over public networks requires suitable security controls. Municipal operators need a power-conscious cellular solution that supports video backhaul, secure transmission, and centralized management.

Müşteri Gereksinimleri

Solar-compatible power
consumption
Operate within the available solar panel and battery capacity, including periods of limited sunlight.
Consistent video backhaul
Support reliable upload of 1080p surveillance video.
Wide-temperature
operation
Operate inside outdoor cabinets exposed to seasonal temperature changes.
Centralized remote
yönetmek
Configure, monitor, update, and troubleshoot a large number of distributed sites without frequent field visits.

Çözüm

Each surveillance site uses a solar panel and battery system to power an IR602 installed inside a light-pole enclosure or outdoor equipment cabinet. Cameras connect through an Ethernet switch or directly to the router’s available Ethernet ports. Nearby environmental sensors can connect over Wi-Fi 6.

The IR602 uses 5G RedCap as the primary backhaul connection. Video and sensor data travel through an encrypted VPN tunnel to the municipal management platform.

All deployed routers connect to DeviceLive. Operations teams can push configurations in batches, perform remote firmware updates, monitor signal quality and data usage, and receive alerts for connection or signal issues.

Faydalar

Faster deployment
Extends connectivity to sites without fiber or utility power while reducing civil works and cabling requirements.
More resilient field
operation
Dual SIM, link monitoring, and the hardware watchdog help reduce the risk of prolonged connection loss.
Fewer site visits
Centralized configuration, monitoring, and OTA updates simplify maintenance across distributed locations.
Protected data
transmission
VPN encryption helps protect video and sensor data as they travel over public cellular networks.
