InHand designs and manufactures rugged tablets and tablet-like devices, in addition to its single board computer (SBC) product line. These tablets are designed for harsh environment and outdoor use for high reliability applications in the medical, industrial, military, and Internet of Things (IoT) fields.
InHand rugged tablets are designed from the ground up, including the circuitry (based on an InHand SBC), operating system (Android or Linux), and packaging. A full range of standard tablet features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, cellular modem, automatic screen rotation and display brightness control, touchscreen input, internal battery charging, and sensors such as accelerometer and magnetometer. The operating system can be customized to enhance security (including the Security Enhanced (SE) Android and SE Linux libraries) and boot into an application. Additional security features can be implemented as operating system enhancements as well as in hardware for custom devices.
The tablet architecture enables options for remote and Over the Air (OTA) updates of firmware and configuration. InHand Device Manager enables remote monitoring and tracking of a deployed fleet, and provides security via remotely controlled device access and GPS-driven operational restrictions (geo-fencing and geo-bricking).
Sunlight readable displays, capacitive and resistive touch technologies, and custom interfaces are available.
Environmental specifications include extended temperature, severe shock/vibration, drop, liquid submersion (including IP67), and others according to MIL-STD-810G. Electromagnetic compatibility specifications include FCC Part 15 (and foreign equivalents) and MIL-STD-461F. Flame retardant, shatter-proof, and disinfectant/caustic compatible materials are available.
